Chinese New Year Open House

We attended our favourite annual CNY Open House this year at The Playschool. As usual, the event is children-friendly; and everyone enjoyed the lion dance performance.

This year, being our 4th time, we got smart through past experience. We arrived at 10 am in time for some fun activities just at the commencement of children's dance performance. We also stood in the shade instead of sitting in the sun to bake and peel.

The Other Half also has his iPhone camera ready at a spot right in front of the poles of the lion dance performance. By the time the performances started,
I was busy peeling mandarin oranges that the lions have been shoving into our hands *teehee* kids had a good time eating those "gold nuggets".

For what is left of the spring celebrations,
we would like to wish you a blessed and prosperous year, again. Happy Chap Goh Meh!

40!

Thank you for all the lovely birthday wishes.

Your hand in friendship, love as family, compassion as virtual friends, kind non-judgmental comments and generosity as team mates are all greatly appreciated. I am blessed, truly.

May Allah swt bless us all with good health, happiness and ease in this Life and Afterlife. Amin.

Our 14 February Story

The Other Half proposed in 2009.

I said, "Yes."

The rest is good history.

We now have a love story to tell our children although we do not celebrate this occasion.

It is an easy anniversary to remember, bravo to The Other Half.

So, tell me, my lovelies: what is your 14 February story? I am eager to learn!

Double Check

Yes, we do go through Girl's work from school, line by line, page by page - when we can.

Teachers are human too, and I totally do not fault her English teacher for this oversight. In fact, the teacher in question apologized profusely when this was first communicated. Bless her sweet soul.

Girl, she had to do her correction work from Mummy dearest, yes. She learnt:
1. Her work is her own responsibility and accountability.
2. Wrong is wrong, even when it is not noticed.
3. Remedial work or correction is for her own learning and growing benefit, no one else.

Tough love, baby.

Homework Momster

When Girl puts her mind and will to it, she can easily ace her homework within the time-frame assigned.

The challenge is...

... she drives me bonkers with her newly-acquired procrastination talent.

"After I shower."

"After I eat my snack."

"After I have my dinner."

"After I shower."

"After my supper."

By then, she would be so tired and ought to be in bed. Instead, with watery sleepy eyes, she would plough through spelling, Mathematics, Mandarin and other pieces of work.

Sigh.

May Allah swt drive the lazy bones away from Girl. Amin.

Filtered Messages

Have you ever checked or read any of the messages that were directed into your filtered messages via Messenger?

By chance, I found mine this morning.
Some were funny, but mostly predatory. It could have caused me so much misery had they not been filtered!

Learning from this encounter, I better prepare myself to protect my little ones from online presence as much as possible, which is quite hard considering how much presence there already is.

Time to brush up on my parenting skills to impart streetwise skills when they eventually grow up to have an online presence.

Wish me luck, my lovelies! Please leave your kind suggestions and reference materials if possible. Thank you.

Reversion Anniversary

Yesterday, 7 February, marked my 7th year as a revert.

I did not actively inform anyone after what happened in 2014 which hurt a lot. Since then, I have forgiven the aggressor and only ask Allah swt to forgive me for my smallness before Him. My heart has healed by letting go completely.

Surprisingly, some business partners happily wished me throughout the day so it was filled with a lot of positive thoughts and kindness. Syukur alhamdulillah for The A-Team!

Equally, some acquaintances who mistakenly thought I had forsaken my own roots for Islam came to know that my parents have passed away some time ago. Finally they understand why I do not have photos of my late parents with my children. No hard feelings, but it was awkward to think they presumed that for 7 years without asking me; and speculated their own mistaken conclusions. Malu bertanya sesat jalan, much. the irony on top of this incident is that they are the very people who told me in 2008/9 that if my intention to revert is sincere, it will be obvious in time to come. Best to leave the conversation hanging than provoking shame or embarrassment, I let it go too.

Syukur alhamdulillah for the journey so far. May Allah swt help me perfect my worship of Him. Please make my journey easy. Amin.

Gong Xi Fa Cai 2016

Salam, my lovelies!

How the week has flown me by, I have no  idea. One reunion after another, here we are. At the brink of another lunar new year. My little family and I are excited to visit some friends again soon, after not seeing some of them for a year or even more.

Here is wishing you and yours a very blessed year ahead. Happy holidays, safe travels and everything in moderation.

Gong Xi Fa Cai!
